Master IAM of Zwolle

Master IAM was an early Netherlandish engraver active between about 1470 and 1495. His St. George and the Dragon (1480-1490) caught my eye because it shows a flying dragon, a great rarity in medieval art.

He is known only by his monogram, the letters plus (sometimes) a goldsmith's drill, plus sometimes his home town of Zwolle. The Met has a nice feature on him, from which most of this comes.

Christ Carrying the Cross, c. 1475, detail.

St. Christopher on Horseback, c. 1490.
